Why Get A Annual Mooring Inspection
A mooring system is only as strong as its weakest link. Moorings wear from boat wakes, wind, waves and storm action. The friction from this movement on the chain, tackle and buoy will cause wear. When the lake lowers from its highest level the mooring chain that lies in the sand wears more rapidly from moving back and forth. This action accelerates the wear to a chain on sandy or granite bottom. Also the chain gets filed down from movement across the edge of the concrete. Oxidization and floral growth like algae will speed up the corrosion process to the chain and tackle. After time the breaking load of your chain is compromise and diminishes the holding power of your mooring system. One strong storm or a large boat wake can break your chain. No, you do not hear about it but it happens every year.
Worn Mooring Warning!!
A boat on a worn mooring can break lose and cause damage to its self. Once the boat breaks mooring it can cause damage to other boats or structures. If it breaks lose at night it could become a navigational hazard. Your boat potentially could cause an accident with another boater traveling at night.
Mooring Inspection
Moorings should be inspected every year to two years depending on the condition of the mooring system the last time you had one. for every ones safety and the safety of property. When it comes to liability it makes sense to have your mooring inspected every year. If a faulty link in a chain, shackle or buoy ball is detected it can be fix at the time of an annual inspection instead of waiting another year for a mandatory inspection.

With an annual inspection all parts of the mooring are inspected for wear and corrosion. Growth on the chain is clean off for visual inspection for wear or corrosion if needed. An Annual Inspection report will be filled out with and any recommendation for replacement of worn parts. Worn parts will be photograph. Pictures and the report well are sent to the owner of the mooring viva e-mail.
One or Two year inspection include underwater photo’s of you’re mooring system at no extra charge. You know exactly what condition your mooring system looks like and how it is put together. This documentation is great for you’re your records and knowing what condition your mooring system is in.
